As part of their study abroad experience, students from the American University of Iraq – Baghdad (AUIB) participated in an intensive academic program in Bremen, Germany, focused on Intercultural Media Studies, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence. The program combined academic coursework with hands-on industry exposure to help students understand how emerging technologies are applied in real-world environments.
A group of nine AUIB students took part in the three-week program, accompanied by Dr. Adil Ghidan, Assistant Professor of Computer Science at AUIB’s College of Arts & Sciences, who guided and supported the students throughout their intensive learning experience focused on the intersections between media studies, data science, and AI technologies. The curriculum aimed to provide participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical insights into how AI is shaping industries and digital communication.
A highlight of the program was a visit to the Mercedes-Benz manufacturing plant in Bremen, one of the company’s major production sites in Europe, where students gained first-hand insights into modern automotive production processes and explored how AI and data-driven technologies fuel innovation in vehicle development and manufacturing efficiency—from optimizing production workflows to improving quality control and supporting advanced automotive engineering. “The visit gave students a unique opportunity to see how artificial intelligence is applied in real-world manufacturing,” said Ms. Dalia Abid, AUIB’s Regional Director Europe, who also accompanied the students throughout the program. “Experiences like these help students connect academic learning with practical industry applications and better prepare them for global careers in technology and innovation.”
The study abroad initiative reflects AUIB’s ongoing commitment to international academic collaboration and experiential learning opportunities that expand students’ perspectives and prepare them for leadership in a technology-driven world.
