We are committed to developing educators and leaders through learner-centered instruction, high-impact research, and practical experiences.
Students will be working closely with faculty to discover advanced, proven-effective methods to address, and solve challenges in schools, organizations, communities, and educational spaces across Baghdad, Iraq, and around the world. Graduates from CEHD will be prepared to build on Iraq’s rich culture and history to foster an environment of innovation, growth, and prosperity.

Are you ready to become a leading Educator? In the Teaching and Learning Design Bachelor’s program, you will be introduced to innovative ways of using education as a tool to design and lead effective practices in diverse educational settings such as schools, non-profit organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and government agencies.

- Instructional Skills: Learn effective teaching strategies, lesson planning, curriculum development, and assessment techniques to engage and educate learners.
- Learning Sciences: Engage in the study of learning with the application of research to design innovative educational interventions and environments.
- Education Design: learn a systematic approach to solve complex problems in schools and organizations.

Enrolling in the Teaching and Learning Design allows you to immerse yourself in the field of education at large, with the opportunity to select a specialty by choosing one of the following pathways:
- Teaching Pathway: If you are passionate about being in the classroom and hope to enhance the primary school experience for Iraqi students, this pathway helps you gain the skills and qualifications that lead to a teaching certification for the primary grades.
- Learning Design Pathway: If improving educational settings in organizations and communities inspires you, this pathway offers an opportunity to acquire skills and experiences to enter careers as an educator in organizations such as non-profits, local and international NGOs, and government agencies.

How You Will Learn At AUIB: Immersion: Be curious. Discover your passion. Learn by experience.
Immersion gives every TLD student the opportunity to pursue intellectual curiosities through immersive experiences that are as creative and unique as the students themselves. Experimental learning is a core component of your academic journey.
- Networking: meetings and visits to organizations to help inform and to secure internships throughout the program
- Internships: Three internship opportunities, two will be part of a seminar course and one will be an immersive experience where you will be placed in a school or organization.
- Capstone: a culminating project that will be presented by each student to integrate and apply the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the program.

A distinguished educator and researcher with a rich career spanning academia, leadership, and industry. Her journey includes roles at US Naval Academy, where she has led the curricular integration, student research, and faculty development initiatives. Her extensive teaching portfolio includes data science, leadership, and engineering. Dr. Webster-Giddings’ commitment to excellence is evident through her prolific publications, transformative workshops, and strategic contributions to organizations like the USNA foundation and Historic London Town and Gardens.

AUIB’s CEHD is working in partnership with Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College of Education and Human Development to develop higher education for academic excellence and build a stronger teacher and educator workforce in the region. Supported by a two-year U.S. State Department grant, Peabody College will lead AUIB’s efforts in designing and launching the CEHD.

Bachelor of Science in Teaching and Learning Design
Enrolling in the Bachelor of Arts in Teaching Learning Design (TLD), you will immerse yourself in a program that uses education as the tool to design and lead effective practices in diverse educational settings such as schools, non-profit organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and government agencies. You will be challenged to think critically, design creatively, teach innovatively, and help youth learn effectively. This program will train you to improve educational systems domestically and globally across all levels of society. As a student in the CEHD, you will learn innovative teaching strategies, curriculum design, action research, entrepreneurship, organizational management, technology integration, and so much more. Once you enroll, in the CEHD, you can choose one of the two pathways to a diploma:
- Teaching Pathway: If you are passionate about being in the classroom and hope to enhance the primary school experience for Iraqi students, this pathway helps you gain the skills and qualifications that lead to a teaching certification for the primary grades.
- Learning Design Pathway: If improving educational settings in organizations and communities inspires you, this pathway offers an opportunity to acquire skills and experiences to enter careers as an educator in organizations such as non-profits, local and international NGOs, and government agencies.
The Philosophy & Religion Department offers a number of “applied” ethics classes complementing the curricula of other AUIB colleges and courses of study in Biology and Chemistry prepare students for professional employment or to enter medical school and other health science programs. Similarly, our Applied Mathematics curriculum provides a seamless transition to programs in AUIB’s forthcoming College of Engineering & Architecture.

Our curriculum includes hands-on experience in learning spaces to allow AUIB students to practice their skills and learned techniques with opportunity to reflect and grow. With all instruction and training in English, students will leave AUIB prepared to educate on a global stage. Through research-based practices and innovative approaches, supported with practical experiences, students will be equipped to meet the educational opportunities and challenges in Iraq, the region, and worldwide. AUIB offers up to 20 comprehensive and prestigious scholarships to recognize the most outstanding and promising students. These CEHD scholarships acknowledge students’ past dedication to academic achievement while investing in a student’s promising future as an educator. The scholarships are funded by the US Department of State in partnership with Vanderbilt University.
