Serving as the Director of The American Space at AUIB has been one of the most satisfying experiences of my professional life. Personally, I deeply value The American Space mission to inform and stimulate creative and intellectual curiosity. It fills me with immense pride to witness the impact of the new programs we have initiated in service to those goals. The introduction of speaker programs like Policy Talks and creative endeavors such as LitFest: A Celebration of the Written Word has allowed us to foster a vibrant intellectual and cultural environment that engenders new perspectives and stimulates the creative spirit. None of these accomplishments would be possible without the exceptional Iraqi staff who oversee and contribute their expertise to these programs. Most of my adult life was spent as an American diplomat in the Arab World. Iraq, with its rich cultural heritage and friendly, welcoming people has occupied a special place in my heart since my first visit in 1987. Joining AUIB has been almost like coming home again. Being a part of this transformative effort to improve the Iraqi educational system and create a better future for Iraq is deeply satisfying.
