The UNESCO Chair on Education for Health and Well-Being and the College of Education and Human Development at the American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB) organized a celebration of World Book Day at the University’s American Space.
A host of AUIB students, among whom were AUIB Book Club members, were an eager audience of short presentations by faculty members on books they had donated to the College of Education and Human Development collection. Every book lover could find a theme they were interested in, as the titles were as varied and rich as the audience’s interests and fancies.
The event was attended by AUIB’s Vice President of Corporate Engagement, Dr. Hassan Nadhem, and members of AUIB faculty and staff, among whom were Dean of Libraries, Dr. Imad Bachir, and Head of Access and Reference Services at AUIB Libraries, Mr. Gilbert Lopez. Dr. Bachir and Mr. Lopez were joined by Dr. Xiu Cravens, Associate Dean for International Students and Affairs at Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College of Education and Human Development, in a panel that discussed with the audience the special importance that books retain, compared to other tools and media by which people access, assimilate, and share information.
