A delegation of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization’s (NATO’s) Mission to Iraq, headed by the Mission’s commanding officer, Lieutenant General Giovanni Iannucci, visited the American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB), where it was welcomed by members of University staff and faculty, headed by AUIB President, Dr. Michael Mulnix.
“It’s a distinct pleasure to welcome a very special guest on campus today”, President Mulnix said, hoping that Lt. Gen. Iannucci and his team would be “frequent guests” of the University, and that the two parties would “establish programs together,” for the benefit of AUIB students and “of all Iraqis.”
For his part, Lt. Gen. Iannucci thanked AUIB for the invitation, expressing his “huge pleasure” at being at AUIB campus, saying he was “very impressed” by the “amazing project” it embodies, and by its “huge potential.” Lt. Gen. Iannucci added that he was “very much looking forward to (exploring) that potential” in cooperation with AUIB, citing his command’s “focus on high level training and advising,” and his “personal and professional interest” in what he described as the “deep interaction between the academic world” and the modern military.
