The Dean of the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD) at the American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB), Dr. Allison Webster-Giddings, and CEHD faculty members Dr. Robert Martin and Dr. Stephen Robinson visited the Global United School in Baghdad, which offers an IB curriculum in Primary (PYP) and Middle Years program (MP). The AUIB delegation was received by the Head of the school, Mrs. Wasan Al-Taher, and the school’s IB Consultant, Mr. Michael Hawkins.
Dr. Webster-Giddings and her colleagues visited some of the classrooms, interacted with students, and proceeded to discuss the school’s curriculum with administrators. The AUIB delegation discussed with their hosts the development of Iraqi students in a K-16 curriculum of inquiry and critical thinking, and explored the possibility of collaboration in education design and developing future educators, as well as making available internship opportunities for CEHD students.
The CEHD curriculum will graduate students with a Bachelor of Science in Teaching and Learning Design, designed in partnership with Vanderbilt University, and made possible by a U.S. State Department grant and the unwavering commitment of AUIB. The Teaching and Learning Design undergraduate degree is grounded in learning science and offers students three internships.
