The College of Law at the American University of Iraq–Baghdad (AUIB) is proud to announce its admission as a Voting Member of the International Association of Law Schools (IALS), becoming the sole law school in Iraq to join this distinguished global academic network dedicated to advancing legal education and fostering international cooperation.

The International Association of Law Schools (IALS) is a global, dean-led academic association bringing together law schools and legal educators from diverse legal traditions worldwide. The Association is based in San Francisco, the United States of America, and serves as an international platform that promotes dialogue, collaboration, and innovation in legal education while supporting the exchange of knowledge, research, and best practices among law schools across jurisdictions. Established through international meetings of legal educators beginning in 2000, IALS was created in response to the increasing globalization and interconnectedness of legal systems. Today, the Association represents a diverse international community of law schools and legal academics, comprising more than 250 law schools from over 60 countries and representing more than 12,000 law faculty members worldwide.

IALS serves as a leading forum for academic exchange through its Global and Regional Law Deans’ Forums, thematic working groups, and scholarly initiatives. Through these platforms, the Association facilitates international dialogue on legal education, curriculum development, academic innovation, comparative legal scholarship, and the evolving needs of legal education worldwide.

Membership in IALS provides the College of Law at AUIB with access to a prestigious international network of peer law schools, creating opportunities for faculty engagement, collaborative research, academic exchange, curriculum development, and participation in global discussions shaping the future of legal education. As a Voting Member, the College will participate in the General Assembly of IALS and contribute to international conversations on legal education standards, innovation, academic excellence, and the evolving needs of the legal profession in the twenty-first century. This membership also strengthens opportunities for students and faculty to engage with global legal perspectives, comparative legal scholarship, and international academic networks, while supporting the College’s mission to prepare future lawyers, judges, policymakers, and legal scholars for an increasingly interconnected legal environment.

The values and objectives of IALS closely align with the mission of the College of Law at AUIB, reinforcing its commitment to academic excellence, innovation in legal education, and meaningful global engagement. As the sole Iraqi law school within this distinguished international association, the College of Law at AUIB is honored to represent Iraq in the global legal education community. This great achievement marks a defining milestone in the internationalization of legal education in Iraq, connecting AUIB’s College of Law to a worldwide community of legal educators and institutions and reaffirming its commitment to advancing legal education in service of justice, the rule of law, and societal development.
