On the 7th of February 2022, a delegation of the American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB), headed by University President, Dr. Michael Mulnix, visited the Iraqi Ministry of Justice, where a meeting was held with the Minister, Judge Salar Abdel-Sattar Mohammad, and several of the Ministry’s staff. The two parties signed a Cooperation Agreement on sharing expertise, training of the Ministry’s staff, and developing its work processes, including the digitization of the Ministry’s information systems.

Minister Mohammad applauded AUIB as a “grand academic institution”, thanking it for its contributions to the Ministry’s efforts at fulfilling public interest, and expressing his pleasure at signing the “significant” Cooperation Agreement with the University. The Minister ordered the provision of Iraq’s official gazette to AUIB Library, for the benefit of students on published laws and regulations.

For his part, President Mulnix hailed the “founding of a distinguished partnership, (to be) culminated by success, between the Ministry of Justice and AUIB”, expressing his gratitude to the Minister for making available the opportunity to layout and discuss ideas and proposals on how to develop the functioning of the Ministry, which culminated in the signing of the present Cooperation Agreement, aimed at supporting the Ministry and improving its efficiency in executing its plans and programs. In the same context, President Mulnix shed light on AUIB’s law school that would support research on legal systems in the Arab World and beyond, contributing to ongoing efforts at developing national legal systems, to meet national needs on all levels, including the administrative, economic, political, as well as what pertains to preserving national cultural heritage.

The American University of Iraq – Baghdad is a non-profit university founded in 2018. It currently has eight colleges.
