The American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB) announces the offering of “Dr. Hana Ameen Scholarship” for students applying to the colleges of International Studies, Business, Liberal Arts and Sciences, and Law programs. Scholarship awardees will be selected by a special committee.
The scholarships awarded will be for a 4-year degree period, from January 2023 until December 2026, covering the students’ tuition fees, initial and annual occurring fees, as well as the fees of one year of English preparatory lessons, where needed. Further details on the provisions of the Scholarship will be announced once registration for the coming academic year is open.
Dr. Hana Ameen is an “Omani of Iraqi origin”, as she describes herself, who wishes to give back to her home country by supporting the education of youth: “If you wish to build a country, it is by Education, Education, and again Education,” Dr. Ameen holds, citing the experience of Singapore as a prominent example in this regard. Dr. Ameen’s career is a remarkable one. She earned a Ph.D. in Statistics degree from Newcastle University in the UK in the year 1983, and progressively assumed several academic positions at the Al-Mustansiriyah University in Baghdad, Alfateh University in Tripoli, Libya, and lastly at the College of Education in Masqat, Oman. Dr. Ameen moved on to the Ministry of Higher Education in Oman in the year 2004, where she first worked as an expert on planning in the Deputy Minister’s office, then as Counselor to the Minister on research and studies affairs, until her retirement in the year 2020.
Dr. Ameen led several projects at the Omani Ministry of Higher Education, most prominent of which were “The National Strategy for Education 2040”, the founding of the Central Admissions Center of public universities, and the Graduate Survey or Tracer Study project. She is keen on following up on international reports on Development, especially human resources development, and relevant issues pertaining to Higher Education and its role in realizing the Sustainable Development Goals.
