A delegation from the American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB) visited the Iraqi “Martyrs Foundation” (MPPF) in Baghdad on January 10 to discuss possible cooperation between the two parties.
The delegation explained that under the general umbrella of AUIB’s commitment to helping Iraq achieve Transitional Justice, AUIB offered to collaborate with MPPF to support staff training in various skills, including DNA analysis in the context of forensic investigation, training on the legal aspects of the aforementioned enterprise, and on the enactment of laws safeguarding human rights in general, as well as training on the “soft skills” involved, including English-language instruction and leadership skills.
Supporting the MPPF and other Iraqi organizations that work to identify remains of missing persons, AUIB will also work with Iraqi partners to reform the healthcare sector in Iraq. In this respect, AUIB will work with the Department of Legal Medicine within the Iraqi Ministry of Health on the development of National Health Records, as well as a National Registry for the Missing.
Due to the wars and crises that befell Iraq over the past decades, families of martyrs became a broad segment of society in need of health and educational services. AUIB, therefore, supports the work of various governmental institutions responsible for addressing the needs of martyrs’ families.
