A College of Law (CoL) student team of the American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB) qualified for Round 32 of the fifth edition of the International Commercial Arbitration Competition in Arabic, which will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, next March.

This remarkable accomplishment is a testament to the dedication and outstanding skills demonstrated by the members of AUIB’s CoL student team, who have showcased their competence in contending with 134 peer teams from 27 countries. AUIB’s team won against teams of ten Iraqi universities, including ones as prestigious as the University of Baghdad, Iraqi University, Al-Nahrain University, and Al-Mustansiriyah University.

921 participants, including team supervisors, are expected to be present in the competition to be held in Riyadh. The Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration organizes the competition in collaboration with prominent international organizations such as the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the Commercial Law Development Program of the U.S. Department of Commerce (CLDP), and the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb).

The Saudi Center for Commercial Arbitration and UNDP have awarded financial support to AUIB’s student team, in recognition of its achievement, covering the team’s travel and accommodation expenses to be incurred by participating in the Riyadh competition.

This latest achievement of AUIB’s CoL student team highlights the caliber of AUIB CoL students and the strength of the College’s academic programs. The student team members, under the coaching of Associate Dean of CoL, Dr. Khansaa Mohammed Jasim, are Mohammed Moaid, Ahmed Amer, Humam Muzahem, Hatem Abdulkareem, Alameer Safaa, and Sarah Abdulmueen.
