Undergraduate

Students can submit an official test score from the list above. However, all students are subject to additional testing to ensure that students meet the standards of English proficiency to be successful in the UG courses. This may include a writing exam or another standardized test.
Students who submit falsified test scores will receive disciplinary actions according to university policy.

iTEP and Institutional TOEFL Exams
These exams are allowed for direct entry into UG. However, due to the poor quality of writing evaluation for iTEP and the Institutional TOEFL (no writing section), students will need to take the writing exam to prove their ability.

AUIB requires a score of 100 to enter the undergraduate program. Students who take the exam for direct entry in undergraduate must also pass a writing exam and score a B-2 (CEFR) or higher in writing. All essays are reviewed by ELA instructors and university professors.
Students cannot take the test during a session and stop their ELA class. Duolingo and the writing essay must be completed before the start of an ASP session or at the end of the ASP session.
Students can take the test at home if they have a passport and a credit card. Students must submit their test scores electronically to the ELA Director first for final approval and then arrange for the writing exam. Students cannot request a second chance on the writing exam without proof that they have completed another level of English beforehand.

If you do not meet any of the above English requirements, then the ELA is the place to start for you. Below are the steps to start learning English to prepare for your academic studies.

1. Take the ELA placement test. The placement test will place you into one of our 6 levels. For more information about the test, please see Placement Testing.
2. Register and start studying in the ELA. See the Academic Success program to learn more about our levels.
3. Complete Level 6 and you can enter the undergraduate directly.

The Accuplacer ESL Placement Test is a computerized test used widely in the United States to accurately evaluate second language learners of English and place them in appropriate levels. All testing is conducted at the Test Center at the ELA.
There are four parts to the Accuplacer ESL Test:

Part 1: Reading: 20 multiple-choice questions (120 points)
Part 2: Listening: 20 multiple-choice questions (120 points)
Part 3: Vocabulary/grammar: 20 multiple-choice questions (120 points)
Part 4: Writing exam: 300–600-word essay (Score 1-8)

For Academic Success Program students, the test will take two hours to complete: 1 hour for Parts 1-3 and 1 hour to complete Part 4.
To be successful on the placement test, students need to be able to:
Type quickly on a desktop/laptop keyboard
Have good reading and writing skills in English
Good range of vocabulary

Read and follow the instructions on the test
To improve your keyboarding skills, you need to practice typing in English at home with a desktop or laptop. Success in the ASP and the university requires students to be computer literate (ability to type and use Office Suite, etc). It is strongly recommended that students own a laptop to use while studying at AUIB.

Local Students (Iraqi Baccalaureate)
The Iraqi Baccalaureate average will be used as the criterion for Iraqi students. The baccalaureate average requirements are set by the Ministry of Higher Education. The numbers may vary based on college and department. Due to capacity constraints higher scores will be considered.

International Applicants are required to submit high school scores. High school grades are required for all and refer to the grades received in high school such as high school transcript, report cards, national exam (Baccalaureate or other) that act as the actual high school grade. Also, students who graduated from countries that require external standardized exams (SAT or ACT, GCSE, ie) will have to submit them as well. AUIB will review and equalize the scores.

Declaration of major is as the standard process for application through the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MoHESR) as the time of the portal application
