Mr. Arnaldo Griffin
Lecturer
Before joining the American University of Iraq–Baghdad (AUIB), Mr. Arnaldo Griffin taught at several international institutions, including City University of New York, Columbia University, INTO London World Education Centre at Glasgow Caledonian University, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology, and Valencia Polytechnic University. Across these universities, he developed and taught courses in English for Academic Purposes (EAP), English for Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and English as a Second Language (ESL), while contributing to curriculum design, assessment development, and student mentorship.
At AUIB, Mr. Griffin lectures in Public Speaking, Communication 101, Academic Writing, coordinates University 101, and contributes to the development of undergraduate curricula within the Liberal Arts program. In 2021, he was selected by the Office of the President and the Director of the English Language Academy to design and deliver a specialized English for Specific Purposes program for the Supreme Court Judges of Iraq, focusing on professional communication and legal discourse.
Mr. Griffin’s research examines the intersectionality of language, society, and upward socio-economic mobility, with additional interests in academic writing pedagogy for the sciences, learner motivation, and the integration of technology and AI in higher education. His work emphasizes inclusive pedagogy, cultural responsiveness, and language as a means of empowerment and access.
Mr. Griffin has contributed to teacher training and community education programs in Japan and has volunteered at schools affected by the Sichuan earthquake in China by leading professional development workshops on educational technology and classroom management.
Mr. Griffin is the author of Shaping Higher Education with Students (UCL Press, 2018) and Figures of Interpretation (Multilingual Matters, 2021).
Mr. Griffin is currently completing a PhD in at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland. He holds a Master’s degree in TESOL and Applied Linguistics from the UCL Institute of Education, a DELTA Diploma in Language Methodology from Cambridge University, and a Bachelor’s degree in English from Columbia University in the City of New York.
