Michael Mulnix

President

The President of AUIB is the chief executive officer of the institution. His direct reports include a Vice-President of Academic Affairs, Vice-President of Administration and Finance, and a Vice-President of Institutional Advancement.

Prof. Michael William Mulnix, Ph.D. is the Founding President of the American University of Iraq – Baghdad. Prior to assuming that position, he was also the Founding President of the American University of Kurdistan.

Dr. Mulnix has lived in the Middle East for nearly a decade, serving as an international educational consultant in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, as Associate Dean and Professor of Communication at Zayed University in Dubai, and as Chair of Graduate Business Programs and Professor of Marketing at the Higher Colleges of Technology in Abu Dhabi. Dr. Mulnix served as Provost/President of Antioch University in Santa Barbara, California; as Dean of Graduate Studies and Research at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas; and as Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Our Lady of the Lake University, also in San Antonio.

He was Executive Director of University Relations and in charge of the Office of Governmental Relations at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln and Director of Public Relations at the American Association of State Colleges and Universities in Washington, D.C. He also served as Executive Director of University and Government Relations and Executive Assistant to the Chancellor at the University of Alaska in Juneau.

Before beginning his career in higher education, Dr. Mulnix was an award-winning reporter and columnist for several daily newspapers in Colorado and Alaska. Dr. Mulnix is co-editor of the quarterly, international academic Journal of Hispanic Higher Education (Sage Publishing, Inc.) as well as several book series. He has lectured worldwide in such areas as cross-cultural communication and international marketing.

He received his Bachelor of Science degree in journalism and history from the University of Colorado in Boulder; his Master of Arts in communications from the University of Notre Dame; and his Ph.D. in public communication/business from the University of Maryland in College Park.
