Dr. Zouhair K. Atieh
Vice President of Academic Affairs
Dr. Zouhair K Atieh received his BS in Biology from the American University of Beirut in 1990 and his PhD in Cell & Molecular Biology from the Cleveland Clinic Foundation in 1998. Dr. Atieh served as a visiting post-doctoral scientist at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) from 1999-2001. He was appointed in 2002 as an Assistant Professor, the Chair of the Department of Lab Science & Technology in 2008 and the Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences in 2012 at the American University of Science & Technology in Beirut. Dr. Atieh joined AUIB in July 2021 as the Dean of the College of Healthcare Technologies and was promoted to Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs in October 2021 and Vice President for Academic Affairs in September 2023. At the academic level, Dr. Atieh joined the Full Professor rank in 2019.
Dr. Atieh played a major role in establishing undergraduate and graduate curricula, developing research programs, accreditation undertakings and collaborations with world-renowned institutions. He is a visiting scientist in the Department of Public Health at the University of California, Berkeley with joint research on drug resistance in infectious diseases in lower socioeconomic status (SES) populations. In addition to public health projects, his research interests include iron trafficking proteins and cancer, environmental and occupational toxicology and human identification in mass disasters. He has authored a number of research articles in high-impact journals including Science, Blood and Gut.
