Dr. Yassir Mohammed Al-Zubaidi

Associate Professor of Biology

Dr. Yassir Al-Zubaidi serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Biology at the American University of Iraq–Baghdad (AUIB). He teaches students from the Sciences, Dentistry, Pharmacy, and other health-related disciplines, offering a wide range of foundational and advanced courses in the biological and biomedical sciences.

With more than 15 years of academic and research experience in pharmacology and biomedical science, Dr. Al-Zubaidi brings a rich interdisciplinary perspective to his teaching. He is dedicated to fostering an engaging, student-centered learning environment that promotes scientific curiosity, critical thinking, and the integration of theory with real-world application.

Dr. Al-Zubaidi earned his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from the University of Sydney, where he also served as a Postdoctoral Associate in the Pharmacogenomics and Drug Development Laboratory at Sydney Medical School. During this time, he led multiple collaborative cancer research projects with institutions such as UNSW, UTS, and the Garvan Institute, focusing on novel therapeutic approaches in breast cancer. His work on fatty acid analogues and key signaling pathways has advanced the understanding of cancer biology and contributed to potential new treatment strategies.

His research has been published in prestigious journals including Biochemical Pharmacology, European Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmacological Reports, Cancer Letters, and the Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences. He has presented his findings at international conferences across Australia, Europe, and Asia, receiving recognition through scholarships, grants, and awards for his contributions to research and education.

Dr. Al-Zubaidi’s primary research interests lie in cancer pharmacology, drug discovery, and molecular mechanisms of disease, with a special focus on breast cancer. Through his work, he aims to bridge basic science and clinical application, while inspiring and mentoring the next generation of health science professionals.
