Dr. Lina Beydoun
Associate Professor of Sociology and Core Liberal Arts Coordinator
With over 20 years in international education, Dr. Beydoun has dedicated her career to connecting institutions, people, and ideas across borders. Before joining AUIB’s College of Arts and Sciences, she founded the university’s Global Engagement Office, where she led global partnerships and created international mobility opportunities.
Dr. Beydoun has served at leading American-style universities in the Arab region, including the American University in Cairo and the American University of Beirut, where she led efforts in global advancement to support academic and research initiatives. She was the Founding Executive Director of the Lebanese American University’s New York Academic Center and held faculty appointments at Adelphi University and George Mason University, contributing to both curriculum design and internationalization. She also served as a joint fellow at the Brookings Doha Center and Qatar University.
An advocate for cross-cultural learning, Dr. Beydoun has led humanitarian action and international development programs and designed study-abroad experiences in Czechia, Egypt, Switzerland, and Costa Rica.
Her research examines international migration, minority groups, and citizenship rights. Her publications include works in African Conflict and Peacebuilding Review, International Journal of Business and Social Science, Encyclopedia of Women and Islamic Cultures, and Contemporary Sociology, among others.
Dr. Beydoun earned her bachelor’s degree with honors from the American University of Beirut and her master’s and Ph.D. from Wayne State University. Raised in Sierra Leone, she has lived and worked in the United States, Iraq, Qatar, and Lebanon. A traveler to more than 70 countries, she finds inspiration in exploring cultures through hiking and trekking around the world.
