JOB SUMMARY:
The American University of Iraq – Baghdad (AUIB) seeks exceptional faculty for AUIB’s new College of Education and Human Development (CEHD). As an American-style university, the CEHD inaugural faculty will be innovative instructors and culturally responsive educators committed to preparing educators whose primary language is often not English. The college is hiring for the Fall 2025.
This position will report directly to the Dean of the College of Education and Human Development.
Job Location: AUIB Campus, Airport Road, Baghdad, Iraq.
AUIB seek faculty who:
- Teach foundational education courses at the undergraduate and eventually graduate
- Collaborate with the CEHD team to refine the Teaching & Learning Design (TLD) program to support novice educators as they develop a commitment to and skills for equitable and ambitious teaching practices through embedded simulations and/or other practice-situated immersion experiences.
- For the CEHD, we are looking to hire faculty that have expertise in at least one of the following domains:
- Math and Science Education
- Special Education
- Curriculum and Instruction
- Comparative Higher Education
- Higher Education Leadership and Management
- Organizational Leadership
- Nonprofit management
Key Responsibility:
Areas of Accountabilities: Main Activities
Duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Teach introductory and advanced education courses for undergraduate students in the Teaching & Learning Design (TLD) program.
- Advise students on matters that relate to their course schedule and academic success.
- Participate in programs, college, and University meetings, various committees, and recruitment activities.
- Design and supervise practicum, immersion experiences, and student
- Assist in program and college planning and curriculum
- Contribute to ongoing program review, assessment, and evaluation.
- Engage in research initiatives led by the college in partnership with universities, schools, and other organizations which can lead to publication.
- Observe the rules, regulations and policies that govern teaching, research, and interactions with members of the university community.

The ideal candidate will have the following professional qualifications and personal qualities:
- Earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. degree in areas of education from accredited universities.
- A record of teaching experience in a university setting.
- Experience in/with the American system of higher education and K-12 education; familiarity with international education systems.
- Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication in English.
- Willingness to collaborate with colleagues.
Personal qualities – Enthusiasm for cross-cultural learning, innovation, and dynamic environments; engagement in the learning process with integrity, trust, and curiosity; flexibility and openness to work with colleagues from different cultures. Prior experience in MENA region is preferred but not required.
