Position Summary: The Teaching Assistant position in Computer Science is housed within the Department of Natural & Applied Sciences, College of Arts & Sciences at AUIB. Reporting to the head of the department, this role involves attending lectures, assisting faculty with course tasks, providing guidance to students during sessions, grading according to rubrics, setting up office hours for student support, and organizing exam schedules. In addition, the assistant will participate in training and meetings. Competencies for this position include a deep understanding of computer science, effective communication skills, teamwork, organizational skills, and the ability to provide constructive feedback to students.

This Position reports to the Head of Department of Natural & Applied Sciences.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Instructor of Computer Science position is housed within the Department of Natural & Applied Sciences, College of Arts & Sciences at AUIB. Reporting to the head of the department, this role involves teaching basic computer science courses to undergraduate students as per the semester assignments. Key responsibilities include attending departmental meetings to stay updated on policies and developments, assisting in the development and updating of course materials and curricula in collaboration with full-time faculty, adhering to the university’s teaching guidelines, and maintaining high professional and ethical standards throughout all interactions.

  1. Teach basic computer science courses to undergraduate students as assigned each semester.
  2. Attend departmental meetings as required to stay informed about departmental policies and developments.
  3. Assist with the development and updating of course materials and curricula in collaboration with full-time faculty.
  4. Understand and comply with the university’s teaching guidelines, regulations, and policies.
  5. Uphold professional and ethical standards in all interactions with students, faculty, and staff, fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  6. Engage in self-directed or professional development to keep abreast of the latest trends and methodologies in computer science education.

JOB Qualifications Minimum:

A: Education:

  • Master’s degree in computer science from a reputable college/ university.

B: Experience: Years/Type of Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience post-secondary in a college/ university setting.

C: Licenses and Certifications:

  1. Familiarity with the American higher education system.
  2. Strong communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  3. Excellent time management and collaboration abilities.

  6. Adaptable to changes in educational and technological trends without compromising quality.
  7. Dedicated to maintaining high ethical standards in teaching, and professional conduct.
