Position Summary: The Teaching Assistant position in Computer Science is housed within the Department of Natural & Applied Sciences, College of Arts & Sciences at AUIB. Reporting to the head of the department, this role involves attending lectures, assisting faculty with course tasks, providing guidance to students during sessions, grading according to rubrics, setting up office hours for student support, and organizing exam schedules. In addition, the assistant will participate in training and meetings. Competencies for this position include a deep understanding of computer science, effective communication skills, teamwork, organizational skills, and the ability to provide constructive feedback to students.

This Position reports to the Head of Department of Natural & Applied Sciences.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Chemistry Lab Instructor position is based in the Department of Natural & Applied Sciences within the College of Arts & Sciences at AUIB. Reporting to the Head of the Department, this role primarily involves teaching laboratory courses that complement theoretical coursework, developing lab protocols and manuals, and ensuring the laboratory is equipped with the necessary materials and equipment. The instructor is also responsible for preparing and managing lab setups, participating in lab safety and technical training, and assisting in the planning of lab offerings according to departmental needs. In addition, the role includes engagement in departmental and college meetings and committee work as required.

Key Responsibility:
Areas of Accountabilities: Main Activities

  1. Teach lab courses, in close coordination with faculty teaching the same courses in theory, or coordinators of those courses.
  2. Write lab protocols and procedures/ lab manuals of the courses he/ she is teaching.
  3. Work closely with the lab manager to inform them about the needs (materials, supplies, and equipment) required to teach the lab courses, and to place the purchase orders.
  4. Help in setting up equipment and materials for lab sessions.
  5. Attend technical and lab safety training as deemed necessary (akin to faculty attending professional development seminars, workshops, etc.).
  6. Assist in planning labs’ offerings as per request from the department chair/ college dean.
  7. Participate in department/college meetings, and take part in committee work, as deemed necessary by the department chair/ college dean.

JOB Qualifications Minimum:

A: Education:

  • Master’s degree in chemistry from a reputable college/ university.

B: Experience: Years/Type of Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience post-secondary in a college/ university setting.

C: Licenses and Certifications:

D: Competencies (Knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

  1. Understanding of lab safety regulations.
  2. Familiarity with the American higher education system.
  3. Proficient in computer usage.
  4. Effective English communication, both written and verbal.
  5. Strong time management capabilities.
  6. Capable of working collaboratively with faculty, other lab instructors, and lab assistants.
  7. Competent in interacting with students and providing supervision and guidance within the lab environment.
