The President of the American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB), Dr. Michael Mulnix, visited the Presidential Palace in Baghdad, where he met His Excellency the President of Iraq, Dr. Abdul Latif Rashid.
Dr. Mulnix briefed President Rashid on the mission and vision of AUIB, its colleges, programs, number of enrolled students, and its ambitious plans for development, aiming to transform not only the educational sector in Iraq, but also the health sector, through the establishment of AUIB’s future College of Medicine and its prospective state-of-the-art university hospital. Dr. Mulnix invited President Rashid to visit AUIB campus, tour its facilities, and meet with the University’s Founders, faculty, and students.
President Rashid, who had obtained his PhD in Hydraulics from Manchester University in the United Kingdom, expressed his deep interest in the advancement of higher education in Iraq, thus contributing to the efforts at restoring Baghdad as a hub of education and culture, as it was during the country’s golden age. His Excellency also saw that the gradual restoration of security and stability in Iraq creates the environment that makes possible the realization of such efforts. Moreover, President Rashid expressed his interest in the upcoming conference on water issues, which AUIB is working to organize on its campus next September, stressing the importance of having as results practical recommendations and applicable scientific solutions that would serve to mitigate the grave challenges that face Iraq in this vital aspect of the country’s present and future.
