In the Teaching and Learning Design Bachelor’s program, you will be introduced to innovative ways of using education as a tool to design and lead effective practices in diverse educational settings such as schools, business, non-profit organizations, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and government agencies.

Choose Your Pathway
Immerse yourself in the field of education: Select a specialty in one the following pathways.
- Teaching Pathway: If you are passionate about being in the classroom and hope to enhance the primary school experience for Iraqi students, this pathway helps you gain the skills and qualifications that lead to a teaching certification for the primary grades.
- Learning Design Pathway: If improving educational settings in organizations and communities inspires you, this pathway offers an opportunity to acquire skills and experiences to enter careers as an educator in organizations such as businesses, non-profits, local and international NGOs, and government agencies.
How You Will Learn At AUIB
Immersion: Be curious. Discover your passion. Learn by experience.
Immersion gives every TLD student the opportunity to pursue intellectual curiosities through immersive experiences that are as creative and unique as the students themselves. Experimental learning is a core component of your academic journey.
- Networking: Meetings and visits to organizations to help inform and to secure internships throughout the program
- Internships: Three internship opportunities, two will be part of a seminar course and one will be an immersive experience where you will be placed in a school or organization.
- Capstone: A culminating project that you will present integrating and applying the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the program.

CEHD strives to reimagine the training of educators in Iraq in the broader spectrum. We envision ourselves as leading and cultivating the science of applied practice in teaching, learning and design.
CEHD Dean: Dr. Allison Webster-Giddings
A distinguished educator and researcher with a rich career spanning academia, leadership, and industry. Her journey includes roles at the US Naval Academy where she has led the curricular integration, student research, and faculty development initiatives. Her extensive teaching portfolio includes data science, leadership, and engineering. Dr. Webster-Giddings’ commitment to excellence is evident through her prolific publications, transformative workshops, and strategic contributions to organizations like the USNA foundation and Historic London Town and Gardens.

Stephen P. Robinson, Ph.D.
Stephen Robinson’s extensive career in education spans a variety of leadership roles, including university senior administrator, head of boarding schools, association executive, and superintendent of a foreign bilingual school system. Along with twenty-seven other educational experts and leaders, Stephen was a key contributor to the Education Reimagined initiative, shaping the future of U.S. K-12 education.
Dr. Robert Martin
Dr. Robert Martin has over fifteen years of teaching experience, including three years within the American University system. His research focuses on facilitating intercultural learning in educational settings, developing learner-centered curricula aligned with SLOs and ILOs, and improving both formative and summative assessment methods to enhance student progress. Dr. Martin is dedicated to providing high-quality education and guidance as an educator.
International Partnership
AUIB’s CEHD is working in partnership with Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College of Education and Human Development to develop higher education for academic excellence and build a stronger teacher and educator workforce in the region. Supported by a two-year U.S. State Department grant, Peabody College will lead AUIB’s efforts in designing and launching the CEHD.

Our curriculum includes hands-on experience in learning spaces to allow AUIB students to practice their skills and learned techniques with opportunity to reflect and grow. With all instruction and training in English, students will leave AUIB prepared to educate on a global stage. Through research-based practices and innovative approaches, supported with practical experiences, students will be equipped to meet the educational opportunities and challenges in Iraq, the region, and worldwide. AUIB offers up comprehensive and prestigious scholarships to recognize the most outstanding and promising students. These CEHD scholarships acknowledge students’ past dedication to academic achievement while investing in a student’s promising future as an educator. The scholarships are funded by the US Department of State in partnership with Vanderbilt University.
