The American University of Iraq – Baghdad (AUIB) has signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of New York in Prague (UNYP) establishing a student exchange program that allows students to study in Prague and obtain an academic degree from both institutions.  In addition to obtaining a dual degree, students will have the opportunity to engage in joint academic and research projects with faculty and students from UNYP.

According to Dr. Michael Mulnix, President of AUIB, the MOU with UNYP is one of a number of similar agreements the university has established with other institutions.

“We continue to establish strong relationships with universities around the world and are eager to have this partnership with UNYP.  Prague is one of the great cities in the world.  It is the capital and largest city in the Czech Republic and the historical capital of Bohemia.  Our students will benefit greatly from studying the culture and traditions of this beautiful region of the world,” Mulnix said.

The General Manager of UNYP, Sotiris Foutsis, said that “We are very happy to join forces with AUIB to provide our students with a safe opportunity to explore the rapidly growing Middle Eastern region. We believe that the educational and cultural exchange will be beneficial for students from both institutions. UNYP cannot wait to welcome visiting students from AUIB in the future.”

The University of New York in Prague was established in 1998 in cooperation with the State University of New York at New Paltz and Empire State College, both part of the State University of New York system.  UNYP partners with SUNY Empire State College to offer their degree students the option to earn a “double degree” – a Czech accredited degree from UNYP plus an American accredited degree from Empire State College (ESC) in 4 years
