Jonas Lovén, the Ambassador of Sweden to Iraq, headed a delegation of the Swedish embassy in Baghdad on a visit to the American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB), where they were received by AUIB President, Dr. Michael Mulnix, and members of faculty and staff.

President Mulnix expressed his great pleasure at welcoming the Swedish Ambassador and his companions, accompanying them on a tour of AUIB campus.

For his part, Ambassador Lovén expressed his joy at visiting AUIB for the first time, saying that he was “immediately impressed and taken aback by this beautiful and impressive premises that you are now restoring.”

Ambassador Lovén pointed out the opportunity of cooperation between AUIB, which is “in the phase of scaling up,” and Swedish universities that “are increasingly looking outwards” and that “have many programs in English”, thus having “all the conditions for building on” what he described as the “very strong human bonds” that bring together Sweden and Iraq, with “around 200 thousand of our citizens or residents who have their roots in Iraq.”  The ambassador invited AUIB officials to visit Swedish universities, citing his embassy’s efforts at developing academic relationships between Iraqi and Swedish institutions.

The American University of Iraq – Baghdad is a non-profit university founded in 2018. It currently has eight colleges.
