The Rafidain Scholarship Program

Celebrating Our Heritage. Inspiring Ambition. Empowering Future Leaders.

The U.S. Embassy Baghdad and AUIB Rafidain Scholarship Program draws inspiration from the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, known in Arabic as Al-Rafidain (الرافدين), which have sustained life, inspired innovation, and shaped civilizations in Mesopotamia for thousands of years. Just as these rivers nurtured the birthplace of civilization, this scholarship seeks to nurture the talent, ambition, and potential of Iraq’s next generation of leaders.

These scholarships are sponsored by U.S. Embassy Baghdad and the American University of Iraq–Baghdad (AUIB) and will cover 100% of tuition fees. The program reflects a shared commitment to expanding educational opportunities, recognizing promising Iraqi talent, and empowering young people through world-class, American-style higher education.

Through this initiative, U.S. Embassy Baghdad and AUIB aim to provide talented and ambitious students with opportunities to develop their academic knowledge, leadership abilities, entrepreneurial mindset, and professional skills, preparing them to become innovators, entrepreneurs, and future leaders who will contribute to Iraq’s economic and social development. More than an educational opportunity, the Rafidain Scholarship Program represents a bridge between Iraq’s extraordinary heritage and its promising future, connecting the spirit of innovation that shaped ancient Mesopotamia with the aspirations of a new generation determined to build a stronger and more prosperous Iraq.

In partnership with U.S. Embassy Baghdad, Rafidain Scholars will also be a bridge between the United States and Iraq. As student ambassadors, Rafidain Scholars will have opportunities to participate in U.S. Embassy programs and meet with American diplomats in Iraq.
