A delegation of the Ministry of External Affairs of the Republic of India, headed by Secretary Dr. Ausaf Sayeed, and accompanied by a delegation of the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, visited the American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB), where they met AUIB President, Dr. Michael Mulnix, and senior members of faculty and staff, and discussed prospective cooperation between the University and prominent institutions of higher education in India.
President Mulnix welcomed the visiting delegations and briefed them on AUIB’s developing facilities and programs, as well as its many projects and initiatives in various spheres, expressing his hope that solid academic partnerships would be established with select universities in India.
In turn, Secretary Sayeed expressed his joy at being at AUIB and learning about its “ambitious expansion programs,” lauding the American-style system of education which the University introduces to Iraq, and hoping to facilitate “educational collaborations between Indian universities and AUIB.” The Indian diplomat took the opportunity to visit the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at campus and lay flowers at its pedestal, and spoke of “the need for peace in this region which has been in turmoil for a long time.” Secretary Sayeed then took the time to visit the newly established Indian Corner at AUIB Libraries.
