The American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB) and the University of Detroit Mercy (UDM) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that lays the framework for academic cooperation between the two parties, aiming to “advance knowledge through shared resources, research, and educational programs,” also serving to enhance cultural exchanges between Iraq and the United States.

Building on this preliminary agreement inked by AUIB President, Dr. Michael Mulnix, and UDM President, Dr. Donald Taylor, the two parties will explore potential collaboration in “developing education programs in the health sciences that may result in joint degrees, UDM certificates, and pathways to graduate study at UDM.” The parties will also consider the exchange of faculty members for the purpose of collaboration in teaching and research, as well as co-organizing symposia, short courses, and research and continuing education programs.

Founded in 1877, the University of Detroit Mercy is among the top 200 universities in the United States. As per the Wall Street Journal’s rankings for the year 2025, UDM is the 43rd nationally and the 2nd in the State of Michigan. UDM is well-known for its quality nursing and engineering programs.
