The American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB) and the British Council signed an agreement establishing the first International English Language Testing System (IELTS) testing center in Baghdad, at AUIB’s Continuing Education Center (CEI).

The Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has put into effect new regulations, mandating IELTS as a requirement for accessing post-graduate studies and study abroad programs. Therefore, IELTS test centers will be set up in each governorate, and AUIB’s CEI was chosen to host such center in Baghdad, as the University has met the highest relevant standards, and its campus boasts the best supporting IT infrastructure, explained CEI’s CEO, Mr. Ziad Chaaban.

“This agreement will allow us to offer the IELTS testing service here at AUIB via computer, giving test takers an efficient and quality experience, and allowing them to get their results more quickly,” said the Country Director of the British Council in Iraq, Mr. Jim Buttery, describing IELTS as “the great enabler: It is the world’s most recognized test of English, and it allows students to work and study abroad or to study at home.”
