The American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB) continues to work relentlessly with parties such as governmental institutions and international organizations to enhance its academic and professional development programs, and to open up new opportunities before its students.
In line with such efforts, AUIB’s Vice President of Student Affairs, Dr. James Pounder, Associate Dean of the College of Law, Dr. Khansaa Jasim, and Director of Global Engagement, Dr. Lina Beydoun, met and discussed cooperation with the President of Iraq’s Council of State, Dr. Kareem Khsbaaq, and separately, with Mr. Anees Ahmed, Chief of Office of Evidence Management at the United Nations’ Investigative Team to Promote Accountability for Crimes Committed by Da’esh/ISIL (UNITAD).
Deliberations resulted in Iraq’s Council of State agreeing to support AUIB’s College of Law by providing faculty for its Arabic sections of curriculum, and to collaborate with the University’s Continuing Education Institute (CEI) to recruit specialized lecturers for a legal skills development program aimed at practicing lawyers. The two parties will also work to facilitate internships for AUIB’s law students with the Council’s administrative courts.
AUIB officials’ discussion with UNITAD’s Mr. Ahmed focused on collaboration between the University’s College of Law (CoL) and the international organization in preparing CoL students for the upcoming Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition, as well as facilitating internships for COL students at UNITAD during summer semesters. UNITAD will also collaborate with AUIB’s CEI in arranging for guest lecturers at CEI’s legal skills development program.
