The American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB) received another major corporate sponsorship, as it forged a partnership with Al-Mansour Iraqi Automotive Company (MAC), an importer of several American and international car brands, and one of the largest General Motors dealers in the world.
The two parties signed a collaboration agreement that outlined MAC’s sponsorship of scholarships, conferences, seminars, sports events, and a range of student-centered activities at AUIB; MAC’s provision of internships for AUIB students; AUIB making available to MAC the naming of facilities, academic programs and faculty titles; as well as AUIB’s Continuing Education Institute offering MAC’s staff free seats and discounted rates at its professional development programs. AUIB President, Dr. Michael Mulnix, and MAC’s Head of Sales and Marketing, Mr. Hamid Sami, signed the collaboration agreement and proceeded to a ceremony, attended by senior members of AUIB faculty and staff, held to celebrate a generous donation on part of MAC to AUIB: an ambulance that will enhance AUIB Clinic’s services.
“Over the coming months and years, we will work with our good friends and colleagues at MAC to identify opportunities for them to support our students in their studies through a variety of scholarships and internships, endowed professorships, and even naming rights on campus; and we would love to see the MAC College of Engineering at AUIB. We are excited and looking forward to discussing possible ways of cooperating and building a bigger and better AUIB that will serve all Iraqis as both MAC and AUIB partner in rebuilding and restoring this great nation,” said President Mulnix at the signing ceremony, adding that “MAC will most definitely benefit by getting a highly trained and highly qualified workforce, while the University will benefit from having more financial resources it can use to benefit students and to conduct cutting-edge research and provide an education that includes more hands-on practical experience.”
