A delegation from the American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB), headed by University President, Dr. Bradley Cook, visited the headquarters of the State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO), Iraq’s National Representative to OPEC, and met with Mr. Ali Nizar Al-Shatri, Director General of the Organization, and a number of its officials.
The two parties discussed prospects for future cooperation, particularly in organizing a forum to be hosted by the university next May, which will bring together some of the leading oil companies and organizations in the energy sector. The two sides also explored the possibility of exchanging expertise between the university’s Center of Excellence for Innovation and Development and the State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO), including through building specialized training courses.
Such initiatives fall within the university’s strategy of building enduring partnerships that serve its objectives in developing Iraqi human competencies and actively contributing to the advancement of various sectors of the country’s economy.
