Headed by the President of the American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB), Dr. Michael Mulnix, an AUIB faculty and staff delegation visited the Iraqi Council of Representatives on the 15th of March 2022, where it met Mr. Adnan Abd Al-Hussein Salman, Director of the Legislative Impact Measurement section of the Parliamentary Legislative Department (PLD).

The delegation discussed cooperation between AUIB and PLD on developing Iraqi legislation, by means of organizing major conferences and workshops on legal issues, and by building training programs in formulating legislation, as well as training in Leadership, English legal language, Technical (Automation), and Arbitration skills at AUIB’s Continuous Education Institute.

The two parties discussed formulating a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the above-mentioned issues, especially on the development of a full training program on the drafting of legislation, particularly against domestic violence, drawing from the relevant American experience. The prospective memorandum of understanding would also formalize AUIB’s provision of consultation services in the automation of PLD’s processes, and the training of the latter’s employees on the subject thereof.

On its part, within the framework of the prospective cooperation, PLD would provide AUIB College of Law students the opportunity of practical application of their studies, including via training workshops and dialogue sessions; and the PLD would also assist university researchers in selecting research topics of practical importance.

Furthermore, arrangements were discussed for a future visit by the Secretary-General of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, Mr. Serwan Abdulla Ismail, to AUIB campus.
