In partnership with the Institute for International Law and Human Rights, the College of Law at the American University of Iraq-Baghdad organized a workshop as part of the Youth Environmental Legal Leadership (YELL) Program, hosting its events on campus over two consecutive days.

The workshop aimed to empower young Iraqis working in the legal and environmental fields with the principles and mechanisms of drafting environmental laws, contributing to capacity building to address environmental challenges in Iraq, explained the Dean of the College of Law at the American University of Iraq-Baghdad, Dr. Khansaa Mohammed Jassim. The workshop saw participation from a number of students from the University’s College of Law, as well as students from across Iraq—from Erbil, Najaf, Al-Qadisiyyah, Baghdad, and Babylon—alongside legal professionals and representatives of concerned civil society organizations.

Characterized by its interactive, dialogue-based nature, where participants exchanged views and experiences, the workshop saw vibrant discussions contributed to by public figures and government officials, including advisors to the Prime Minister’s Office, the Presidency of the Parliament, and the Presidency of the Republic.
