The American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB) hosted on its campus and co-organized with Al-Mustansiriyah University the Fourth International Scientific Conference on Innovations in Pharmaceutical Research. The conference was attended by deans and officials from various Iraqi universities, and also officials from the Iraqi Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, as well as various governmental bodies concerned with the health sector.
AUIB President, Dr. Michael Mulnix, gave a warm welcome to the visiting colleagues and officials, as he addressed the attendees. “Pharmacy education is absolutely, incredibly important,” said President Mulnix, stressing the importance of training quality, specialized pharmacists to better serve the Iraqi community, rather than aiming to graduate large numbers of pharmacists. In this regard, President Mulnix cited the many partnerships that AUIB’s College of Pharmacy (CoP) has forged with highly esteemed institutions, for the purpose of advancing its teaching and research capacities and building world-class pharmacy programs. These institutions include the Colleges of Pharmacy of Al-Mustansiriyah University and Saint Joseph University, and also several international pharmaceutical associations.
The conference discussed prominent, current issues in the field of Pharmacy and the latest relevant developments, such as “Computer-Aided Drug Design,” which utilizes Artificial Intelligence applications, and the latter’s role in accelerating the process of drug development and the invention of new drugs.
