The American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB) received a delegation from the Embassy of the Italian Republic in Baghdad, headed by H.E. Ambassador Niccolò Fontana. AUIB President, Dr. Bradley Cook, and members of the university’s academic and administrative cadre welcomed the diplomatic delegation and engaged them in discussion on opportunities for advancing collaboration in education, research, and cultural exchange.

The meeting that brought together AUIB’s leading cadre with Italy’s diplomatic mission in Baghdad was by no means the first, as the relationship between the two parties had yielded the facilitation of cooperation between AUIB and leading institutions of higher education in Italy, such as the Sapienza University of Rome and the University of Genoa.

Deliberations focused on expanding AUIB’s network of partnerships with leading Italian universities, covering cooperation in academic fields such as architecture, international relations, law, and petroleum engineering. Prospective partnerships might also expand to include business firms in sectors such as the energy and health sectors.

The two parties also agreed preliminarily to establish an Italian Corner at AUIB Libraries, and to collaborate in organizing various conferences, seminars, and workshops, as well as cultural and sport events.
