Dr. Omar F. Tawfiq 

Associate Professor at the College of Dentistry

 Before joining AUIB, in the last two decades, Dr Omar held numerous clinical and academic positions at universities in Malaysia. Throughout that time, he served as Head of Prosthodontics department, chair of continuous professional development, dental polyclinic manager, and academic year coordinator for dental program.  

Dr. Omar obtained his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Baghdad in 2004. He served in the Iraqi Ministry of Health as trainee and general practitioner, followed by a private practice in Baghdad before pursuing postgraduate studies. He later earned a master’s degree (2009) and a Ph.D. in Prosthodontics (2020) from the University of Malaya, where he simultaneously served as a clinical and academic faculty member. 

Throughout his career, Dr. Omar has made significant contributions to dental education, including the development and reviewing BDS curricula, participation in national and international dental program accreditation, and the supervision to graduation of more than 650 undergraduate and postgraduate dental students 

Joined AUIB in 2024 as associate professor in restorative dentistry and prosthodontics, teaching fixed and removable prosthodontics. He served as university’s faculty senate member, university research board member, curriculum review committee member and chair of disciplinary committee in college of dentistry.  

As a dedicated researcher and educator, Dr Omar has been involved in various research projects, research conferences, research collaborations, and hands-on training workshop initiatives.  His areas of interest include dental aesthetics, biometric guides for aesthetic and occlusal restoration and full mouth rehabilitation.  

Focused on restorative dentistry, dental photography, dental implantology, dental materials, magnification in dentistry, advanced digital dental technologies, and the integration of artificial intelligence in dental research and practice, Dr. Omar has authored and participated in many international conferences and competitions, published posters and approximately 20 peer-reviewed papers in leading clinical and scientific journals. His commitment and passion to advancing both dental education and clinical practice have earned him recognition in the field.
