The College of Engineering (CoE) at the American University of Iraq-Baghdad (AUIB) organized a “Donuts with the Dean” event, where College students met the new Dean, Professor Wathiq Mansoor, and interacted with him in a casual, relaxed setting at the American Space auditorium on campus.

Professor Mansoor, himself an avid researcher in Artificial Intelligence, was pleased to learn that many of the students in attendance were specializing at AUIB in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Engineering, in addition to majors such as Petroleum Engineering and Electrical Engineering, as well as interdisciplinary studies such as Engineering Management. In his interaction with the students, he affirmed that the theme of sustainability is today paramount across all branches of Engineering, spurring the audience to take interest in renewable energy in its various forms. He also addressed another major theme in today’s world: AI and the manner and ethics of its constructive use, highlighting the need for more studies on the issues of ethics, in this context, at the same time warning against using AI as “a replacement of one’s reasoning, rather than a tool.”
