Dr. Adib Charafeddine

Assistant Professor of Medicinal Chemistry

Dr. Adib Charafeddine holds a Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry and a Master’s in Biochemistry/Bio-organic Chemistry from the University of Claude Bernard Lyon 1, France. His research focuses on drug design and synthesis, particularly the development of puromycin analogues as broad-spectrum antibiotics targeting bacterial ribosomal enzymes. 

With over 18 years of academic experience, Dr. Charafeddine has taught at several institutions, including the American University of Beirut (AUB), University of Balamand (UOB), Notre Dame University (NDU), Lebanese University, and the American University of Science and Technology (AUST). At AUIB, he is actively involved in both teaching and research. 

He teaches courses in Medicinal Chemistry, Medical Biochemistry, and Bio-organic Chemistry, and brings extensive laboratory expertise in HPLC, DNA and peptide synthesis, NMR spectroscopy, and X-ray crystallography. His current research interests include neuropharmacology, immunomodulation, and stem cell biology.
