Dr. Syed Waqar Haider
Assistant Professor of Marketing
Dr. Syed Waqar Haider earned his PhD in Marketing from Xi’an Jiaotong University, an AACSBaccredited institution. Dr. Syed also holds MBA in Marketing. He is an Assistant Professor of Marketing at the American University of Iraq, Baghdad, specializing in consumer behavior, digital marketing, and sustainable marketing strategies. In the classroom he emphasizes an engaging, application-oriented learning experience that connects marketing theory with real business challenges to prepare students for leadership in a global marketplace. Dr Syed regularly invites industry experts to his classes, giving students a practical and up-to-date view of business markets.
His teaching and research are informed by diverse academic and professional experience across China, the Middle East, and South Asia.
His research focuses on sustainable marketing, consumer behavior, sustainable consumption and the United Nations’ SDGs, retail, and social media. His portfolio includes publications in Q1, Q2 and ABDC-listed journals, with conference papers presented internationally. Selected journals include the Journal of Business Ethics, Journal of Sustainable Marketing, SAGE Open, International Journal of Retail & Distribution Management, and the Journal of Pharmaceutical and Healthcare Marketing.
Dr. Syed contributes to the discipline through active reviewer service for journals such as SAGE Open, European Journal of Marketing, and Frontiers in Psychology. He has supervised graduate research in the past and is a member of the American Marketing Association, reflecting ongoing engagement with current marketing practice and scholarship. Currently, Dr. Syed is also an associate editor at International Journal of Management Research and Emerging Sciences.
