Position Summary: The Director of the Student Learning Office will perform a crucial role in developing initiatives aimed at enhancing student learning. Along with these initiatives, a key feature of this role will be working with the Vice President, Enrollment Services and Student Affairs, Vice President, Academic Affairs, Director of Institutional Effectiveness, and College Deans to ensure that the WASC set of questions on student learning contained in the Handbook of Accreditation are addressed.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Academic Support

Supervise the work of the academic writing and mathematics tutoring units.

Develop a comprehensive peer-assisted learning system including peer tutoring, collaborative learning, and peer mentoring, i.e., a buddy system.

2. Study Abroad

Increase the collaboration with institutions worldwide, especially in the USA, to offer study abroad/exchange programs and global learning experiences.

Coordinate with the Deans the offering of virtual courses that connect students from different countries, promoting cross-cultural understanding.

3. Community Engagement

Working with the Colleges:

Identify the needs of the community, ensuring that the service provided addresses specific challenges or gaps.

Encourage the integration of community engagement into the academic curriculum.

Ensure that students engage in meaningful activities that directly address community needs. This involvement should be active, with students playing a role in planning, executing, and reflecting on their service.

4. Accreditation

Working with the relevant stakeholders to ensure that the WSCUC standards on student learning are satisfied.

Education: Earned PhD or EdD from an accredited institution.

Experience: Years/Type of Work Experience: Minimum of five years’ experience in one (preferably two) of the above job areas.

Licenses and Certifications: Preferably an advanced learning and teaching qualification such as Senior Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy.

D:Competencies (knowledge, Skills & Abilities):

  • Significant experience in teaching, curriculum development, and academic program assessment.
  • Proven track record of implementing innovative learning strategies and improving student outcomes.
  • Experience working in diverse and inclusive educational environments
  • Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficiency in using educational technologies and learning management systems.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret data for strategic decision-making.
