Position Title: Access Library Assistant Accepting Applications
Job Location: AUIB Campus, Airport Road, Baghdad, Iraq.
Job Summary: The Library Assistant will perform a variety of clerical tasks within the Access and Reference Services Section. The Library Assistant will circulate all library items inside and outside the library both manually and within the online library system. He/she will also assist with retrieving, shelving, shelf-reading, and performing inventories of library materials to verify that materials are shelved in their proper location. To perform this role, you must be onsite at AUIB Campus.
- Staffing the Reference and Circulation Desk and providing basic research assistance services to library users; providing feedback to the Head of the department, as needed.
- Circulating all library items inside and outside the library both manually and within the online library system according to established library policies and procedures.
- Collecting overdue fines and updating user records in the online library system.
- Retrieving print course reserves materials as specified by faculty members and updating the course reserves management system and the online library system accordingly.
- Recording statistics in a timely and accurate manner and generating reports as needed.
- Aiding library users in using the public copiers/scanners.
- Retrieving and shelving library materials and assisting with the ongoing organization and maintenance of the print collections in the library stacks, including regular shelf-reading to make sure materials are shelved in the proper order.
- Assisting with the annual inventory
- Ensuring that the library closing procedures are respected.
- Reporting complaints and patrons’ remarks to the Head of the Section and answering a variety of circulation-related questions.
- Act as study room monitor backup in the absence of the Reference Assistant.
- Maintains confidentiality of information with areas of position responsibilities.
- Participates in departmental and campus-wide meetings and takes minutes as needed.
- Keeps abreast with the latest developments in the field.
Minimum Education And Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Library Science or a related field from an accredited university.
- Knowledge of reference sources; ability to deliver basic, responsive, and user-centered instruction services.
- Effective interpersonal and organizational skills, with a demonstrated ability to work positively and productively with diverse constituencies in a rapidly changing environment.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-based environment.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills And Abilities)
- Strong commitment to student success through engaged learning.
- Enthusiasm for learning and applying technology in an academic environment.
- Skills in the operation of a variety of office machines including personal computers, telephones, photocopiers, etc.
- Ability to lift and carry at least 5 kgs.
- Good reading, writing and spoken English and Arabic language communication skills.
