Dr. Massar Shekhan

Assistant Professor of Anesthesia

Before joining AUIB, Dr. Shekhan served as a research scientist and lab manager at the University of Chicago, following a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC). 

Previously, he was a Lecturer in Molecular Biology at Al-Qadissiya University, where he taught bacteriology, infectious diseases, and molecular biology. Dr. Shekhan has over 15 years of teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. 

Dr. Shekhan earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics of Cancer from the Northern Institute for Cancer Research at Newcastle University, United Kingdom. His doctoral research investigated the genetic and molecular underpinnings of cancer, with a focus on translational applications in oncology. 

At AUIB, he integrates his research expertise into teaching, offering a research-informed approach to anesthesiology, perioperative care, and biomedical sciences. He is dedicated to developing academic and research collaborations and is actively involved in building partnerships with Iraqi cancer centers to introduce cutting-edge genomic approaches.
