Dr. Rana A. Alaaeddine

Assistant Professor of Pharmacology

Dr. Rana A. Alaaeddine is an Assistant Professor of Pharmacology whose research and teaching bridge the fields of cardiovascular, neurovascular, and metabolic disease pharmacology. She holds a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the American University of Beirut, where she also completed her M.S. in Pharmacology and Therapeutics. Her research centers on vascular impairments, endothelial dysfunction, and the metabolic–inflammatory crosstalk underlying early cardiovascular complications, particularly in prediabetes.

Dr. Alaaeddine’s work extends to drug repurposing and the design of multi-target drug ligands, with emphasis on the pleiotropic effects of antithrombotic agents across metabolic and neurodegenerative disorders. Her contributions have been published in high-impact journals, highlighting her commitment to translational pharmacology.

In parallel with her research, Dr. Alaaeddine is a dedicated educator and mentor, currently serving at the American University of Iraq – Baghdad, where she leads pharmacology, toxicology, and pharmacotherapeutics courses and plays an active role in curriculum development, accreditation (ACPE), and student mentorship. She has supervised numerous graduate and undergraduate students and established a pharmacology laboratory to enhance experiential learning.

Her scholarly excellence has been recognized through national and international awards. Dr. Alaaeddine continues to champion interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation in pharmacology, aiming to translate scientific discovery into tangible advances in patient care.
