Dr. Marwa Hassan

Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutical Sciences

Before joining AUIB, Dr. Marwa Hassan served as a researcher and lecturer at the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden, where she combined teaching and research across pharmacy, chemistry, and molecular biology.

Her work focused on applying advanced Time-of-Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (ToF-SIMS) to study the skin permeation of metal allergens and chemical compounds, contributing to a deeper understanding of transdermal drug delivery and skin exposure science. At AUIB, Dr. Hassan teaches courses in Toxicology and Pharmaceutical Sciences and plays an active role in mentoring undergraduate students. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes active learning and critical thinking, preparing students to bridge scientific research with clinical and public health practice.

Dr. Hassan’s research has been internationally recognized, with invited presentations at major conferences in Europe, the United States, and Asia. She has published in leading peer-reviewed journals such as Toxicology in Vitro and Biointerphase and continues to advance interdisciplinary research at the interface of pharmaceutical analysis, toxicology, and skin exposure science.

She earned her Ph.D. in Natural Science through a joint program between the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology and holds both a master’s and bachelor’s degree in pharmacy from the University of Gothenburg.
