Open Rank Faculty Restorative Dentistry and Prosthodontics – Spring 2025 (January) Accepting Applications
The College of Dentistry at the American University of Iraq Baghdad (AUIB) is pleased to invite qualified applicants for a full-time faculty position in the department of restorative dentistry and prosthodontics.
Based on proven experience in teaching, research, clinical care, and community service, this open-rank post may be classified as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor.
Candidates must have teaching experience, and those with scholarly and research interests are encouraged.
The faculty member’s duties will include didactic and clinical instruction of students, scholarly activities, and service. He is also expected to participate in the faculty practice. The Dean or the Department Chair will determine the overall distribution of such activities and the allocation of responsibilities, considering student and clinic needs, among other appropriate considerations.

- Demonstrate advanced clinical skills in restorative dentistry procedures.
- Provide clear and engaging instructions to undergraduate and graduate students in restorative dentistry courses, preclinical work, and clinical practice.
- Utilize innovative teaching methodologies to enhance student learning outcomes and facilitate knowledge retention.
- Contribute to developing, evaluating, and enhancing the college curriculum. Design and implement instructional materials, assessments, and learning resources that align with educational objectives and accreditation standards.
- Provide clinical supervision and mentorship to dental students, teaching assistants, and junior faculty members.
- Provide a supportive learning environment conducive to skill development and ethical patient care.
- Collaborate with colleagues across dental specialties to deliver comprehensive patient care.
- Participate in research projects and scholarly activities.
- Demonstrate high ethical standards and professional conduct in teaching, mentoring, and interpersonal interactions.
- Communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, students, and staff from diverse backgrounds and cultural contexts.
- Engage in continuing education activities, workshops, conferences, and professional organizations.
Responsibilities:
- Teach theory and pre-clinical/clinical courses in Dentistry, and serve as course director.
- Apply a coherent teaching and learning strategy to the college.
- Mentor and advise students when needed.
- Assist in developing and teaching the college curriculum.
- Assist in developing and teaching continuing education and/or graduate programs to develop the advanced skills of practicing dentists.
- Assist in preparing and managing the annual college budget.
- Contribute to and plan for a research project in the college and support scholarly activities.
- Participate in college practices and training facilities.
- Attend college meetings and educational events.
Experience, Skills, and Educational Requirements:
Candidates for this position must hold:
• BDS, DDS, or DMD, or highest professional dental qualification, and graduate from an accredited dental school
• Must have a PhD in Restorative Dentistry and/or Prosthodontics from a reputable college or university
• Preference for a Doctor of Philosophy in Dental Sciences.
Candidates for this position should:
• Have a minimum of 2 years of post-secondary teaching experience in a college or university setting.
• Be familiar with preclinical and clinical material and safety rules.
• Be familiar with the American system of higher education.
• Show evidence of research activities in restorative dentistry, fixed, and/or removable prosthodontics.
• Have a solid understanding of clinical practice, procedures, and scheduling in dentistry.
• Have a valid and current dental license or be eligible for licensing.
• An American Board or certification exam is a plus.
