Position Summary: The Director of Athletics is responsible for overseeing the university’s athletic programs, fostering a culture of excellence in academics and athletics, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. This role will lead strategic planning, budget management, and community engagement while promoting student-athlete welfare and success.

Areas of Accountabilities:

  1. Leadership & Management:
    • Provide visionary leadership for all athletic programs, ensuring alignment with the university’s mission and values.
    • Supervise coaching staff, administrative personnel, and support staff across all athletic teams.
  2. Strategic Development:
    • Develop and implement strategic plans to enhance athletic programs, increase student participation, and improve competitive performance.
    • Collaborate with university leadership to secure resources and funding for athletic initiatives.
  3. Compliance & Regulations:
    • Ensure all athletic programs are in compliance with relevant regulations, and university policies.
    • Conduct regular audits and risk assessments to maintain high standards of integrity and compliance.
  4. Student-Athlete Support:
    • Foster an environment that prioritizes the academic and personal development of student-athletes.
    • Implement programs that address physical wellness, and career development for student-athletes.
  5. Budgeting & Resource Management:
    • Develop and manage the athletics budget, ensuring the responsible allocation of resources.
    • Seek out sponsorships, partnerships, and fundraising opportunities to enhance the athletic program.
  6. Community Engagement:
    • Serve as the primary spokesperson for the athletics program, engaging with alumni, donors, and the community.
    • Promote athletic events and initiatives to enhance university visibility and support.
  7. Diversity & Inclusion:
    • Champion diversity and inclusion initiatives within the athletics department, ensuring equitable access and opportunities for all student-athletes. A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in athletic and/or university administration at the collegiate level.

Education: Master’s degree in Sports Management/Administration, Education, or a related field.

Experiance: Extensive coaching experiance in at least one of the major athletic areas of AUIB. Must have  5 or more years of progressive experiance in athletic and/or university administration.

Competencies (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):

Strong demonstrated knowledge of Iraqi and international regulations relevant to athletics.

Proven experience in leadership, management, and strategic planning.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
