Job Summary:The Associate Director for the Information Technology Department is a senior-level position that reports directly to the Director. The Associate Director is responsible for the daily operations of the IT Department and for supervising the department staff, whilst ensuring the effective operation of information systems to support educational and administrative functions. The Associate Director for IT plays a crucial role in ensuring that the university’s technology infrastructure supports its mission and objectives effectively.
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic leader, capable of driving innovation and efficiency in a rapidly evolving academic environment. The Associate Director of the IT must also collaborate closely with the Director on long-term planning and strategy for the department.
This position reports to the Director of Information Technology.
Responsibilities and Areas of Accountabilities:
- Support the Director of the IT Department in all respects.
- Collaborate with campus stakeholders to understand their IT needs and priorities fostering strong collaborative relationships across campus community.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and trends to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement as part of university strategic plan.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and professional development opportunities for IT staff.
- Collaborate with project teams and subject matter experts within campus stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
- Lead and oversee IT projects, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and meet quality standards.
- Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
- Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of the University’s IT infrastructure.
- Manage network architecture, hardware, software, and cloud services to ensure optimal performance and security.
- Develop and implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
- Establish and enforce IT policies and procedures to safeguard the University’s data information systems, and assets.
- Establish and enforce IT governance policies to ensure the responsible use of technology resources.
- Stay informed about cybersecurity threats and implement measures to mitigate risks.
- Provide financial analysis and reporting related to IT expenditures.
- Develop and manage the IT budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources, in close coordination with the IT Director.
Educational Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Master’s degree would be a plus.
- Certification in PMP, in information security (e.g., CISSP), ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library), COBIT (Control Objectives for Information and Related Technologies), or relevant technology-specific credentials may be beneficial.
Professional Experience:
- Proven five or more years experience in a leadership role within IT with a track record of strategic planning and execution with a preference in academic environment or startup.
- Experience in project management, data analytics, IT infrastructure, and security.
- Experience in a supervisory role, demonstrating leadership and team management capabilities.
Competencies – (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):
- Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, and emerging technologies.
- Technical knowledge including but not limited to network infrastructure, data security, cloud computing, and educational technology.
- In-depth knowledge of information security principles, practices, and technologies.
- Project management experience and familiarity with industry best practices with a record of success of implementing projects on time and within allocated budget.
- Proven ability to lead while motivating diverse team in a fast pace environment.
- Knowledge of relevant regulations and compliance standards.
- Manage complex and sensitive materials and foster a culture of confidentiality.
- Demonstrated data analytical skills.
- Proficiency in translating business requirements into functional system designs.
- Experience using data analytics and business intelligence tools.
- Experience supporting SIS, CRM, LMS, WMS systems.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English (Arabic advantage).
- Demonstrate a high degree of professionalism and a can-do mindset.
- Strong work ethic with the ability to excel in a demanding, and dynamic environment.
- Familiar with American education system is an advantage.
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, administrators, and other staff members.
