JOB SUMMARY:
The College of Healthcare Technologies at the American University of Iraq Baghdad (AUIB) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Adjunct clinical laboratory instructor to join our College of Healthcare Technologies. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching and mentoring Optometry & Vision Science students in ophthalmic clinical skills, ensuring they gain the practical knowledge and hands-on experience necessary to excel in their careers.
This position will report directly to the Dean of the College of Healthcare Technologies.
Job Location: AUIB Campus, Airport Road, Baghdad, Iraq.
Key Responsibility:
Areas of Accountabilities: Main Activities
- Develop and deliver comprehensive laboratory sessions on ophthalmic and optometric clinical skills, including diagnostic techniques and communication skills
- Provide hands-on instruction and supervision to students during laboratory sessions, ensuring adherence to best practices and safety protocols.
- Assess student performance through practical exams, assignments, and continuous feedback.
- Collaborate with faculty members to integrate clinical skills training with theoreticallearning
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in clinical optometry and incorporate newtechniques and technologies into the curriculum.
- Maintain and manage laboratory equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition andavailable for student use.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment that encourages studentengagement and success.
- Participate in departmental meetings, curriculum planning, and professionaldevelopment activities.
Qualifications:
- Master’s or Doctorate degree in Ophthalmology or Optometry
- Certification or licensure in Ophthalmology or Optometry
- Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience
- Excellent communication skills in English
- Previous teaching or instructional experience is highly desirable
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students
- Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive academic environment
- Familiarity with the American system of higher education
