AUIB | University Foundation

Mission

The Board of Trustees of the American University of Iraq - Baghdad (AUIB) will establish a University Foundation to support the mission of the institution and the vision of its founders. The Foundation is both the fund- and friend-raising arm of the institution and reports directly to the University President. The Foundation will allow the University to build long-lasting, heartfelt relationships with a wide range of stakeholders on a local, regional, national and international basis. The philosophy behind this Foundation is to engage the community in supporting the development of the University and establishing it as one of the premier teaching and research institutions in the Middle East.

The Foundation will establish cooperative relationships between AUIB’s senior-level administration, the Board of Trustees, advancement staff, and the campus community. The ultimate goal of the Foundation is to create a philanthropic environment that will result in superior programs and services at AUIB.

The AUIB Foundation will increase the visibility of the University within Baghdad, throughout Iraq, and beyond. Both friend- and fund-raising goals will mobilize the support of a number of constituencies so that AUIB is on solid financial footing and able to offer outstanding educational services.

Vision

In line with the mission of the University, the objective of the AUIB Foundation is to integrate the University within the community it serves and to engage as many individuals, donors, volunteers, corporations and groups as possible in the development and promotion of AUIB with the ultimate goal of creating a better future for our students, our community, the region and our world.

Program Organization

Work of the Foundation will be coordinated by the President of AUIB in close consultation with the volunteer Chair of the Board of Directors of the AUIB Foundation. Over time, a professional staff will be hired, led by a Vice President of Institutional Advancement who will report directly to the President. As the Foundation grows and thrives, additional professional staff will be hired including, but not limited to: Director of Advancement Services; Director of Constituency Programs; Director of Individual Giving Programs; Director of the AUIB Alumni Association; and Director of Finance and Administration.

The Foundation will include a robust volunteer organization comprised of alumni, parents, community members, friends, faculty/staff and others.

Foundation Board of Directors

There will be an AUIB Foundation Board of Directors comprised of board members from Iraq, the United States, Great Britain and other nations as warranted.

The Foundation Board will be jointly led by a Chair (appointed by the Board of Trustees) and the University President. Meetings will be held on a semi-annual basis and alternating between New York City, London, and on the campus at AUIB.

Foundation Board members will:

  • Assist in securing private contributions, in addition to donating resources of their own
  • Steadily increase the level of private giving to AUIB, both in terms of dollars raised and yearly increases in the number of contributors
  • Help educate AUIB’s various constituencies about the importance of philanthropic giving to enhance excellence throughout the University’s programs and services.
  • Support increasing the visibility of AUIB throughout Iraq, the United States, Great Britain and beyond.
